Preventing Vitamin Deficiences

The great majority of people won’t have to deal with vitamin deficiency problems. This is a problem that is more present in countries where there are deep malnutrition problems; however, even with a good nutrition we can be a victim of them due to other factors such as malabsorption (caused by conditions or medications).

The best way to prevent vitamin deficiencies is, of course, to have a well balanced diet. If you are a vegan, you’ll find essential to add vitamin B12 to your diet, as it is not found in good quantities in vegetables. Vitamin D deficiencies can be successfully prevented by getting enough healthy sun exposure. Excessive use of sunscreen is not recommended.

If you are a nursing woman or pregnant woman, be sure to take multi vitamin supplements formulated especially for that stage in life, with extra amounts of vitamins. This way, you’ll also prevent vitamin deficiencies with your child.
